Search Engine Optimization - Timeless Principles Always at Rescue
By Daljeet Sidhu

Search engines constantly change their search algorithms. This is done to ensure that SEO firms are not able to manipulate the search results to falsely get their client websites in top search lists. Search engines are morally obliged to convey relevant and good quality search results to its users, and therefore they regularly change and improve the search algorithms. To counteract this, SEO firms need to review their strategies frequently. However, there are some basic SEO strategies that are timeless and resistant to these changes, as they can still ensure good ranking for the websites irrespective of the algorithms changes. Here are some of the reasons for SEO companies to not depend on search algorithms alone and pay equally high importance to other basic SEO strategies that do not vary frequently:Search algorithm changes are a secretSEO firms do not get any specific information regarding changes to the algorithms, as these changes are classified information of the search engine companies. This secrecy results in fierce competition amongst SEO firms and they refrain from sharing these secrets amongst themselves. As a result, if the SEO strategies were mainly designed around search algorithms, these firms would need to go on with the testing of their websites forever.SEO professionals are an assetSEO professionals do a lot of reading and research. They also attend seminars, conferences etc. However, what really helps in designing timeless SEO strategies is the experience that SEO professionals gain over time. Many a times, search engine algorithms revert to previous versions to bring in changes, and an experienced SEO professional can easily figure out these changes. A search engine may give a high priority to 'in-bound' links at one time, and meta tags contents at another. Experienced SEO professionals are aware of such strategies used by search algorithms and can use them to their advantage.Effective SEO means making right choices with respect to the SEO strategies being used. Search algorithms change so often and chasing these changes is time and energy consuming, while we are not even sure if this effort will work in the future. Basic strategies like using relevant content, optimum keyword density etc should also be used adequately. Experienced SEO professional also have good contacts in the search industry and this helps while dealing with the changes in the search algorithms.Timeless SEO Principles always at rescueTo keep up with the changes in the search algorithms can turn out to be quite intimidating. It is advisable to make good use of basic and simple SEO principles like using appropriate keywords, tracking results etc. These strategies meet the goal of delivering genuine and high quality results to the user. The use of latest technologies may turn out to be counterproductive as they may not be useful in the future. SEO firms that focus on entertaining basic needs of search engines should always be preferred over SEO firms that give higher value to the use of latest technologies.Daljeet Sidhu. Common Mistakes in Writing SEO Press Releases (And How to Fix Them)
By Daniel Bartel

Like a phoenix from the recycle bin, so has the press release made a remarkable comeback, thanks to the advent of search. So popular is the subject, you'll find dozens of articles and instructions on how to write an SEO-friendly press release. Just type "how to write an SEO press release" into any search engine and you'll see. But for all the free advice, many of these releases keep making the same mistakes.Thousands of press releases are distributed daily. Many will never see the light of day in spite of the writer's best efforts: using effective keywords, writing pithy title and descriptions tags, drafting separate versions for blogs and social networking sites. With all that fuss, one might expect some good to come of it. Right? Not when the writer trades SEO tips for common sense. You can get ahead of the game and achieve greater search engine visibility (SEV) by avoiding these common mistakes occurring more and more.

  1. Forget to check competitor sites. Put your four or five top keywords into any search engine and see what appears first. As former real estate reporter, I put in "office real estate transactions Dallas." The Dallas Morning News appeared first in the SERPs because they publish a real estate journal. Each one of those keywords appeared at least 5-10 times. Thus, my press release would attempt to weave more targeted keywords into the copy with greater density and closer juxtaposition.
  2. Not enough information. You can have the best written, most optimized press release that amounts to a whole lotta nuthin if it lacks information. Too many superlatives and not enough facts will land most releases into the waste bin. In general, reporters and other information seekers lose interest fast when they run across of something that looks like a cleverly veiled sales pitch. Some PR sites may not even accept releases that are too promotional. So avoid, avoid, avoid.
  3. Ineffective links. You should use keyword phrases when linking to other pages. "Click here" or "See more" are a waste of text, unless you're introducing a "See more" product line.
  4. Lame quotes. Quotes add credibility, but no one cares about long-winded bolstering about a new product or service. Instead, use quotes that catch the eye or summarize a lot in very few words.

Once you've conquered these press release snafus, here are some things you can do to maximize your search engine visibility. The idea here is to think of the press release as a "micro" web page with all the elements of web page. For instance:

  1. Insert graphics. Adding the company logo works to enhance branding, and secretly allows you to insert image "alt" tags, which help SEO.
  2. Add multimedia. Consider embedding external picture and video links. You're able to communicate your press release in pictures instead of words only. Sites such as YouTube and Flickr are indexed by all major search engines. If you can even create a short audio broadcast of your new development or product. If your releases include a RSS feed, you can direct Apple iTunes to pick it up and include on one of its free channels.
  3. Include keyword links. Keywords tend to do better with search engines if they link to other pages. By incorporating links from your company's targeted keywords, the release can function as a portal to additional information on those keyword topics. By this, your press release will rank better in SE results for those keywords and drive traffic to your landing page, provided the landing page also uses those same keywords.
